Adding Labels to Large Key and Small Key Modules

This guide explains how to remove the keycaps from your Switchology modules, insert labels, and reinstall the keycaps.

Tools Required

You will need a small screwdriver with a sharp edge. A small Phillips screwdriver, around 1.2 mm, works well.

Small Keycaps

Hold the module by the sides and gently press the sides inward.

Slide the edge of the screwdriver under the clear part of the keycap and carefully pry it open. Keep a finger on top of the keycap while doing this, as the clear cap may spring away when it comes loose.

Once the keycap has been removed, slide out the white insert. The white insert is not clipped in; it simply sits inside the clear cap.

Place your label inside the clear cap, then slide the white insert back into place.

The keycap only fits onto the switch in two orientations. Make sure the label is facing the correct way before reinstalling the keycap.

Large Keycaps

Remove the large keycap from the module in the same way as the small keycaps.

After removing the keycap, carefully separate the clear and white parts. Insert the screwdriver blade between the two parts and gently lever them apart.

Place your label inside the clear cap, making sure it is oriented correctly.

When reassembling the large keycap, make sure the tabs and holes are properly aligned. The white part has tabs that slide into the clear part, and holes that fit over the tabs on the key base.

Once everything is aligned, press the keycap back into place.
